Malajah, 18 years old

Malajah is 16 years old and lives in NY. She has been placed in four different foster homes over the past three years. Currently, Malajah is residing in a foster home without any of her siblings, which is proving to be a very challenging situation for her. Malajah is only a year apart from her older and younger sisters, and the three of them have always been extremely close. Malajah deeply misses her siblings, and due to many of her family members having moved to other states, she is unable to see them as often as she would like. Despite all of the traumatic circumstances Malajah has faced in her life, she remains very focused on doing well in school and pursuing her hobbies: basketball, fashion, and music. Malajah has not been able to see her mom or sisters in over a year, despite vocalizing her wish to visit them. Malajah surrounds herself with friends, but deeply misses her family.

Malajah would be over the moon and love this new pair of sneakers before the start of the school year in September. She has wanted these sneakers for a long time, but unfortunately, the foster care agency will not buy them for her, and she doesn't have her income yet or family to get special, "non-essential" things for her even though they would mean so much. Malajah let CASA know that she has wanted these sneakers since her 15th birthday over a year and a half ago, so they have been on her mind for a long time. Malajah says she will wear these sneakers everywhere and to school every day!
